16th December 2024 - Jack Abbott MP welcomes government devolution plans

On 16th December 2024, the Government published its English Devolution White Paper- that is, its plans to devolve power away from Westminster to areas like ours.

I welcome the Government's new, ambitious plan for devolution, that ensures putting power in the hands of local people is the default, not based on the whims of Whitehall.

The deal agreed under the previous government short-changed and under-valued Suffolk.

In contrast, we are now on the pathway for a new devolution settlement for Suffolk and East Anglia; one that is irreversibly committed to giving real economic, social, and political power to local people.

I will continue to work with local and national politicians to ensure we are able to take full advantage of the opportunities on offer for our town, county, and region.
