On 16th of January, I welcomed Local Transport Minister, Simon Lightwood, to Ipswich to visit Gusford Community Primary School’s ‘Bikeability’ scheme. The Minister and I met with Year 5 and 6 students and participated in a session of their government-funded ‘Bikeability’ scheme. This scheme is designed to help give children the confidence and skills to cycle safely throughout the town.
The Labour Government has committed to encouraging children to be more active. This includes promoting active travel, which reduces congestion, helps the environment, and teaches children important life skills.
My thanks go to the Minister for coming to Ipswich to see how Government schemes like this can make a real, tangible difference in towns like ours. I commend Gusford for their work in this area and would encourage other schools in Ipswich and Suffolk to roll out Bikeability too!
