19th December 2024 - Jack Abbott MP celebrates biggest investment into hospices for a generation

Jack Abbott MP with Health Secretary Wes Streeting

On 19th December 2024, the Government announced a £100 million boost for adult and children’s hospices, and £26 million to support children and young people’s hospices. This amounts to the biggest investment into hospices in a generation.

Earlier this year, I wrote to the Health Secretary on this issue, so I am delighted to see this ambitious investment that will help support patients and families in Ipswich and Suffolk so people can receive the end of life care they need.

Over the last 14 years, hospices, and the charity sector more broadly, had to take on an unimaginable burden for an NHS that was bursting at the seams.

But the new government is intent on doing things differently. This pre-Christmas boost is both a recognition of the crucial work that hospices are doing in Ipswich, Suffolk and the rest of the country, but also backs up our thanks with new funding to help deliver the best possible end-of-life care.
