Ipswich MP Jack Abbott has welcomed the growing support for a potential bid to secure City of Culture status in 2029. Despite not being a city, Ipswich is eligible to apply, and the idea has gained momentum since Jack first raised it in Parliament earlier this year.
“I’m so pleased that some of Ipswich’s very best creatives have come forward to support a City of Culture bid,” Jack said. “This is a unique opportunity to showcase the town’s phenomenal talent and drive forward regeneration.”
Supporters include the Thomas Wolsey 550 project, Brighten The Corners, and the Ipswich Society. While Ipswich Borough Council would need to lead the bid, local enthusiasm continues to build.
