Ipswich’s arts and culture scene isn’t just simmering — it’s reached boiling point.
That’s why I brought together more than 20 of our town’s leading creatives at St Stephen’s Church to discuss the idea of an Ipswich City of Culture bid and how we can build on what has been a truly special summer.
From the hat-trick of Ed Sheeran gigs to Brighten the Corners, theatre, dance, music, and art — it has felt like something brilliant has been happening every weekend. I don’t want these to be one-offs; I want them to become the new normal for Ipswich.
City of Culture status would help us showcase our incredible talent, attract investment, and continue regenerating our town. And remember — you don’t have to be a city to become a City of Culture!
The appetite and ambition are clear, and this first meeting was a fantastic start. Together, we can take Ipswich’s creative energy to the next level.
