20th December - Jack Abbott MP welcomes Labour's plans to bring back the family doctor

On 20th December, I was delighted to hear the Government announce a new raft of reforms that will help bring back the family doctor for people here in Ipswich. The Government has begun to consult the British Medical Association on measures including the largest boost to GP funding in years, and cutting red tape so that GPs in Ipswich and Suffolk will be able to spend more time focussing on treating patients.

I promised residents in Ipswich that a Labour government would bring back the family doctor, and I am delighted to see proposals that would deliver on that promise. This also marks a significant step towards ending the infamous 8am scramble for appointments that all of us have to suffer every time we want to see a doctor.

These proposals are backed by an extra £889 million, on top of the existing budget for general practice. This means that patients here in Ipswich, including those with complex needs, long-term conditions, or the elderly, would experience greater continuity of care.
