Earlier this week, I was proud to vote in favour of the Government’s landmark Crime and Policing Bill.
The Bill is a huge step forward in delivering Labour’s mission of taking back control of our streets.
As I have said before, an MP has a responsibility to find solutions to the challenges that face towns like Ipswich, rather than simply moaning about them like a keyboard warrior. We have already had recent experience of how far that approach gets us.
That is why the Government and I quickly got to work in repairing a system that, much like many of our public services, had been starved of funding and focus by the Conservatives.
A real-terms funding boost - £5.5 million - to Suffolk Police was welcome, as was the big chunk of cash for neighbourhood policing to put bobbies back on the beat.
