On 21st October, I urged the Government to review and reform the police funding formula to deliver a fairer settlement for Suffolk.
The police funding formula has long been considered to penalise counties like Suffolk, which is why I called on the Government to finally deliver fairer funding for our local police force.
Speaking in the House of Commons during Home Office Questions, I referred to the previous Conservative government’s failure to reform to current system, despite promises to do so. I am not alone in my concerns- the Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner for Suffolk, Tim Passmore, has himself previously described the settlement as “a pretty poor deal”.
In her reply to my question, Dame Diana Johnson, the Police Minister, said that the police funding formula was being considered ahead of the spending review.
My full question and the Minister’s response can be read here.
