On 26th November, I spoke in a Westminster Hall debate on upgrading the electricity grid, to urge the Government to prioritise economic growth and our mission of spreading opportunity to working across Suffolk.
Over the last decade-and-a-half, the big decisions on Britain's electricity infrastructure were consistently kicked into the long grass. As the Government aims for clean power by 2030, the window in which we have to operate to complete much-needed upgrades to Britain's energy infrastructure is narrowing.
The debate about Britain's electricity infrastructure is one that is fundamentally about opportunity. There is an opportunity to say that we will be transitioning to renewable energy to safeguard Britain's energy security and lower bills for working people. There is an opportunity to seize our chance for greater energy independence, and for Britain, particularly for us here in Suffolk, to seize the opportunity to be world leaders in the energy transition. We cannot keep going around the houses, dithering and delaying.
