OUR LABOUR GOVERNMENT'S RENTERS' RIGHTS BILL HAS BECOME LAW!

  • This will make such a difference to so many people in Ipswich - here is what it means for you:

  • No more bidding wars. It will be illegal to request, encourage or accept offers above the set price.

  • Landlords will not be allowed to ask for more than one month's rent upfront.

  • No more 'no-fault' evictions. All evictions will require valid grounds.

  • An end to fixed term tenancies. All tenancies will default to being a monthly rolling contract.

  • More rights for your pets. Landlords must consider pet requests fairly.

  • Making it illegal for landlords and agents to discriminate against prospective tenants in receipt of benefits or with children.

  • Landlords will have to give at least four months notice when ending a tenancy to sell.

  • Delivering Awaab’s Law, making sure homes are made safe when they contain dangerous hazards.

  • Giving local authorities more power to act to ensure good standards, and ensuring the Decent Homes Standard applies to private rental.
