29th January – Jack Abbott MP on Ipswich City of Culture bid

On 29th January, I expressed my support for a potential Ipswich bid to be UK City of Culture 2029. We truly have something special simmering away here in our town- whether it is dance, theatre, grassroots music or even our football club, there is so much to be proud of.

My job as an MP is not just to support our arts and culture scene, but to do everything I can to help take it to another level.

That is why I met with the Minister for Creative Industries, Arts and Tourism, Sir Chris Bryant, last year to discuss our town’s cultural offering, and to explore the process of a potential City of Culture bid.

My understanding is that the nature of the competition and the bidding process could be different this year. However, I am clear that, when the time comes, the opportunity to provide a national stage for our phenomenal creative talents, and drive forward the regeneration of our town, is one we simply must grab with both hands.
