Jack Abbott has welcomed a major government investment in cancer care, with Colchester Hospital set to receive a new cutting-edge radiotherapy machine through a £70 million national funding package. Patients in Ipswich are set to benefit directly from this investment.
The machine—part of a broader upgrade across East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust—will enable faster, more accurate cancer treatment, reduce the number of hospital visits required, and better target hard-to-treat cancers.
Jack Abbott said:
“Over the past decade, too many patients have faced unacceptable waits for life-saving cancer treatment due to outdated equipment and overstretched services. This new, state-of-the-art machine is a crucial breakthrough for people in our area.”
With Ipswich suffering from a cancer mortality rate significantly above the national average, Jack described the targeted funding as “hugely welcome” and a vital step in improving local health outcomes.
“Our Labour Government is taking serious action to modernise and improve cancer care,” he added. “This investment is about saving lives—and delivering the healthcare our communities deserve.”
