3rd June - Jack Abbott Writes to Suffolk County Council and Anglian Water following flooding in Ipswich
After the extensive flooding that occurred in Ipswich yesterday, I have written to Suffolk County Council and Anglian Water urging them to carry out an immediate review into all drainage infrastructure, and to fix any defects as soon as possible.
While the rain was unusually heavy, such downpours are predicted to become more frequent due to the effects of climate change. It is not lost on me and others that this flooding came on a day where the new Reform administration announced it was to repeal measures designed to combat these sorts of incidents.
Motorists were left stranded, our road network was subject to huge delays, buses and emergency vehicles were diverted and put under real pressure.
It is crucial that Ipswich’s drainage infrastructure is working at full capacity to mitigate the risk of such flooding in future.
