30th November 2024 - Jack Abbott MP meets Health Minister to discuss Cardinal Medical Practice

Jack Abbott MP and Patrick Spencer MP meeting Health Minister, Stephen Kinnock

On 30th November 2024, alongside Patrick Spencer MP, I met with the minister responsible for primary care, Stephen Kinnock, in Suffolk to discuss the recent cancellation of Cardinal Medical Practice’s ‘super surgery’ development at Tooks Bakery, Ipswich.

I raised the need for improved primary care for north west Ipswich, and emphasised that the ‘super surgery’ project echoed the Government’s commitment to rooting care in the community, as part of the Government’s long-term NHS strategy in the wake of the Darzi Report.

I was pleased to hear the Minister reaffirm the importance of neighbourhood healthcare in Ipswich. The Government is right to emphasise the importance of putting care back in our community as an integral part of our long-term plan for the NHS.

I will continue to work with local and national politicians and our local NHS to try and find a workable solution that ensures no part of our town or county is left behind as we invest in an reform our National Health Service.
