6th May - Jack Abbott Speaks on BBC about Regeneration in Ipswich

We are seeing green shoots of recovery coming through in Ipswich.

Empty town centre buildings are being brought back into use, like the Old Post Office, now the Botanist, and the Grimwades building which had stood empty for a decade.

The Regent has been renovated, and Ipswich Museum is too, and our wonderful parks are stunning.

Public spaces are being enhanced such as the St Matthew's Street/Civic Drive junction, Hawthorn Drive Shopping Parade, Arras Square, and Lloyds Avenue.

Major investments too for a state-of-the-art youth hub and a new tourist attraction on the waterfront, as well as a Creative Digital Skills Lab at the Baths.

More than 400 affordable homes have been delivered over the past few years, including the landmark developments at Ravenswood, Bibb Way, Hawke Road and Fore Hamlet. In addtion, Ipswich Borough Council will be spending £17 million to improve council housing, to ensure they are safe, decent and energy efficient.

Our Labour Government's £1.5 million Pride in Place funding has already been allocated to over 30 different community projects across Ipswich, with an extra £40 million for our town now secured.

Plus, a new community diagnostic centre in the town centre. Jobs and investment through Sizewell C. Millions more for SEND. The biggest upgrade to Ipswich bus services in 30 years and record funding to fix potholes. Crime down. Waiting lists falling. Footfall up. Event after event after event, all boosting our City of Culture bid.
