9th July- Jack Abbott Hails Return of Sure Start Legacy with New Best Start Family Hubs

This is a moment of real pride and a sign of the change that is now underway.

In 2010, the Suffolk Conservatives promised that our county’s 47 Sure Start children’s centres were safe. By 2020, after a decade of brutal cuts, just 17 remained open full time.

I led the campaign to save them. We won some battles, like keeping Highfield in Ipswich open, but too many families lost access to a service that was nothing short of a lifeline.

Now, in 2025, I am proud to be part of a Labour Government that is rebuilding what was lost and going even further.

Our new Best Start Family Hubs, inspired by the legacy of Sure Start, will deliver vital support from birth registration and midwifery to nutrition advice and child development activities.

By 2028, 1,000 of these Hubs will be operating across the country, including right here in Suffolk.

This is what real change looks like. This is the difference a Labour Government makes.
