People in Ipswich are rightly concerned about criminality on our high streets, which is why I welcome Operation Machinize and the work being done to take back our streets.

The operation targets cash-intensive businesses being used for money laundering, drug distribution, modern slavery, human trafficking, firearms, and the sale of illicit tobacco and vapes. In Ipswich, 15 raids have already taken place at barbers, car washes, mini-markets, and takeaways, uncovering illegal goods and safeguarding vulnerable individuals.

This work is part of the Government’s wider Clear, Hold, Build strategy to tackle serious and organised crime, reduce anti-social behaviour, and protect communities. Between March and August, the initiative has already led to 111 arrests, 42 years of convictions, and seizures of £500,000 worth of cocaine, vehicles, and weapons.

There is still more to do, but these operations show that police and partner agencies, backed by the Government, are making a real difference in keeping Ipswich safe and protecting local communities.
