On 25th July, I made my maiden speech to the House of Commons. I took the opportunity to celebrate our town’s rich and diverse history, as the oldest continuous town in England. But I also used it to raise two key issues very close to my heart, which I will be particularly attentive to whilst an MP.
Firstly, I raised the ongoing crisis in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision, which, though it is a national scandal, is particularly bad here in Suffolk. I also raised the vast opportunities of the transition to net zero. Not only do I agree with the Government that the UK must be a world leader in the energy transition, but I also want Suffolk to be the engine driving this change.
As I outlined to the House, it is the greatest privilege of my life to be elected as the Member of Parliament for Ipswich. There is so much to be proud of here in our town and our county, and I look forward to representing Ipswich to the very best of my ability over the coming Parliament.
