On Wednesday 29th January, I raised the construction of an Ipswich Northern Bypass with the Prime Minister in Parliament. This follows the continued issues with the Orwell Bridge and wider A14, which are impacting both residents and businesses.
Speaking in Prime Minister’s Questions, I emphasised the local, regional, and national importance of a potential Ipswich Northern Bypass, encouraging the Prime Minister to back the builders, not the blockers here in our town.
This intervention follows my letter to the Prime Minister last week, in which I asked the government to take the project out of the local political quagmire, which is harming local businesses and residents, acting as a chokehold on growth.
In reply, the Prime Minister noted that I have been “relentless in seeking to boost growth and investment and Suffolk” and emphasised that the gridlock faced by Ipswich residents is emblematic of the previous Government’s failure to “deal with this when they had the chance to do so”.
The Prime Minister re-iterated the Government’s plans (announced in December and expanded upon in last week’s Plan for Change) to fast track 150 national infrastructure projects and offered me a meeting with the relevant minister to discuss steps forward on this issue.
