Jack Abbott has joined climate experts, community leaders, and fellow MPs at the launch of the Co-operative Party’s new report Power in Our Communities, which calls for local leadership to drive forward the UK’s net zero ambitions.

The event focused on empowering communities to take charge of climate action and building the consensus needed to meet environmental goals from the ground up.

Jack said:

“Real progress on climate can’t just be dictated from Westminster—it must be built in our communities. Local people, councils and organisations have the ideas, energy and urgency to lead the way.”

At the event, attendees

• Explored how community power can unlock climate progress

• Highlighted success stories from across the UK

• Discussed how MPs can support local climate action through policy and partnerships

Jack added:

“Ipswich has huge potential to lead in this space. From green skills to cleaner transport and community energy, I will always champion the tools and funding we need to deliver net zero locally.”
