What is Pride and Place?

Pride in Place is a new initiative from the Government designed to put power back into the hands of local communities. It is about giving towns like Ipswich the tools, funding, and freedom to shape our own future, making decisions locally, not having them dictated from London.

What this means for Ipswich

  • Ipswich will receive £1.5 million in capital funding over the next two years to revitalise our town centre and speed up regeneration.

  • Local people will have a direct say on how that money is spent, ensuring investment reflects our community’s priorities.

  • New local powers will also be introduced to help improve our high streets and neighbourhoods.

What can Pride in Place do?

  • Bringing empty buildings and shops back into use

  • Restoring community venues and local landmarks

  • Improving public spaces, accessibility, and lighting

  • Supporting small businesses and market traders

  • Investing in sports, arts, and youth facilities

  • Creating safer, cleaner, more welcoming streets

  • Enhance safety and cleanliness across the town centre

Ipswich's chance for renewal

We have already seen early signs of revival in Ipswich. The once-empty Grimwades building on the Cornhill is now home to Jamaica Blue, a bustling café breathing new life into our town centre.

Events like Ed Sheeran’s hat-trick of gigs at Portman Road and Brighten the Corners have filled our streets with music and energy. The Portal is attracting people and energy into the centre of town.

This is just the beginning. With this new investment, we now have the opportunity to rebuild pride, confidence, and ambition in our town.
