I was proud to welcome the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, to Suffolk New College — right here in the heart of Ipswich.
He was introduced by two brilliant T Level Engineering learners, Leo and Maliki, who represented the future of our town with real confidence and pride. It was a special moment that reflected exactly what this visit was all about: ambition, opportunity, and local talent.
The Prime Minister spoke passionately about his commitment to technical skills and the importance of giving people here in Suffolk the chance to access high-quality, well-paid jobs — including at Sizewell C.
I want to say a huge thank you to the incredible staff, learners, and apprentices at Suffolk New College for creating such a warm, welcoming atmosphere and showing everyone exactly what makes our town so special.
This visit wasn’t just symbolic — it marked the start of a new era.
An era of energy security, of nuclear investment, and of real opportunities for local people. Sizewell C has already brought a huge boost to jobs and businesses across our area — but we are only just getting started.
With the right leadership, Suffolk can be at the centre of Britain’s clean energy future — and I’ll make sure Ipswich plays a leading role every step of the way.
