16th December 2024 - Jack Abbott MP welcomes community right to buy

On 16th December 2024, the Deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner, announced in the English Devolution White Paper that the Government will be introducing a 'community right to buy'.

This means that assets fundamental to our town cannot be stripped away or allowed to decay- which has happened all too often across the country over the last 14 years- but instead will be protected by community ownership.

This really important measure will help revive town centres like Ipswich, ensuring our community can act in its own best interests. This is a brilliant example of government at its very best- acting to empower, rather than hinder, efforts at a local level.

I look forward to supporting this legislation as part of a wider package of reforms when it is brought before Parliament in the New Year.
