On 5th November, I wrote to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, and the National Energy System Operator (NESO), along with 60 of my fellow Labour MPs.
Our letter urges the Labour government, in the face of anti-growth anti-pylon lobbying from Conservative and Green MPs, to fulfil our overwhelming mandate to turbocharge the energy transition, grow our economy, and tackle climate change.
And, to do so, we need to deliver new infrastructure as affordably and quickly as possible.
If we followed the wishes of the Conservative Party and the Green Party, it would take a decade to deliver the infrastructure we need, while unnecessarily piling on billions of pounds in additional costs.
Under the previous Conservative government, we suffered from years of dither and delay which put our country's energy security at risk, while driving up bills for households and businesses. Here in Ipswich and beyond, we all paid the price for their negligence.
It is now time to get on with the job we were elected to do, help protect people from volatile energy prices, and invest responsibly in our country's future.
