6th January – Jack Abbott MP supports Plan for Change and social care reform

On the 6th of January I was pleased to pledge my support for the Government’s Plan for Change. This will cut NHS waiting times from 18 months to a maximum of 18 weeks, ensuring that, under Labour, people here in Ipswich will receive the treatment they need faster.

While these reforms are ambitious (these targets haven't been achieved for a decade), they are necessary. In England, the waiting list for elective treatment stood at 7.6 million in September 2024, with more than 3 million waiting over 18 weeks. Simply put, people are waiting too long to get the GP or NHS dentist appointments they need, and 10% of patients are now waiting for 12 hours or more in A&E. These figures are far too high, and under the Government’s new plans, we will be able to revitalise the NHS in order to put to bed the struggles left by 14 years of Conservative negligence.
