On 8th January, I was delighted to welcome the Government’s huge uplift to support for disabled and elderly residents in Ipswich, as part of Labour’s adult social care reforms.
Ipswich will receive more than £200,000 in additional funding, and Suffolk over £1 million, to help disabled and elderly residents make improvements to their homes, helping support people to live at home with dignity and independence.
Alongside the funding, the Government is also taking immediate action to support adult social care, including by harnessing the power of technology to transform care and support older people to live at home for longer, cutting red tape to ensure billions of pounds of NHS and social care funding is spent on keeping people healthy, and improving pay and conditions for thousands of care workers.
It is also encouraging to hear that care workers across Ipswich will be supported to take on more routine health interventions, such as blood pressure checks, saving people a journey into their GP or hospital, and thereby alleviating some of the pressures on our health service.
